He started his career in the film industry on 14th of November 1961 in the Malayalam movie Kaalpadugal and thus he completes 50 successful years of playback singing, this year. He celebrated his Golden Jubilee as a singer on 14th of November 2011.

The music marvel has sung more than 50000 songs in various languages such as Malayalam, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada, Telugu, Bengali, Gujarati, Oriya, Marathi, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Tulu, Malay, Russian, Arabic, English and Latin. Born on 10th January 1940 in Cochin, the music genius has crossed many many hardships in life to attain this honorary position. The sensational singer has been honored with the Padma Shri Award in the year 1975 and with Padma Bhushan in 2002.
